Having problems with your HP 91 (White) 19" CRT Monitor ?

Yellowing screen after 15 minute great working!

\015 Hi! I have got a "HP 91 19" CRT Monitor" and it always works great in the early moorning after a long sleep at night. But after 15-20 minutes of perfect running, it starts to get yellowy. At first some yellowy lines running up and down, then there are more and more of them. At this phase, some little hit to the monitor's side solves the problem... for some seconds. Then after 2-3 minutes, it completely changes to a yellowy, little greeny screen. Not that bad, but annoying, and i work a lot with Photoshop, so i would need all the colors.\015\012\015\012Here are all the symphtoms i have experienced:\015\012- At night i switch it off, tomorrow it's gonna work perfect for ~15 minutes\015\012- Before it gets yelowy, there is a little war with yellowy lines running up and down\015\012- Finally gets completely yellowy, no response to hitting it.\015\012- BUT! I found out, that the MENU SYSTEM of the monitor is all the same, NOT YELLOWY! \015\012\015\012I think this means that the cathode ray tube is okay. Maybe there is something with the heating. Some components got dry or i dont know... When it warms up, thats when the problems get going. Please tell me if i can fix it by changing some easy-to-get components, or it can be cheaply have serviced or etc...\015\012\015\012THANK YOU VERY MUCH!\015

Styber,
\015\012While CRT monitors are very good with color rendition, they do have a warm up time (at least 30 minutes before to get the truest color they can give) they also lose brightness and contrast over time. Since you do Photshop work and color is important to you, you should consider a new monitor, if you want to stick with the CRT style they are still available cheaper now because of the popularity of the thinner lightweight space saving LCD's, but you can get a new LCD which will be better that the .26 dot pitch you are used to on the HP. Depending on the extent you rely on your monitor for color accuracy, you can find a reasonable replacement monitor all they way up to an outrageously priced model which has lots of adjustments. Be be advised all monitors are going to look different and all should be calibrated, either visually with software based adjustment or with a hardware / software monitor calibration. That's a whole different solution - ask if you want to know more. I personally went from a 21" Sony CRT, huge and heavy to a 20" widescreen LCD, no regrets, the images are clear the display is stable. So go and look at them at your local computer store. The cost to have the CRT repaired combined with shipping (the weight is a factor) was just under the cost of a new LCD. There are very few user serviceable parts for monitors and repairing is not as economical or practical as it was back in the days of "TV Repair" shops.
