''BootMNGR is missing''

\015 Alright. I had disabled the media card and got the screen working again. HOWEVER! Something popped on my LAPTOP'S Screen after the ''Gateway'' logo prompts...''BootMNGR is missing''Press Ctrl+Alrt+Del to reset. 8-[< I don't have any disk included with it the refurbished product bought from TigerDirect. Is there any way to get the boot manager restored again? I don't want to lose any of files now by reformatting it, then finding out installing from Windows CD, will still not get the Boot from working.\015

Mindsynopsis, the bootmgr is a serious issue, it means the hard drive can not boot properly at all. this will lock any further attempts to restore unless you have the ORIGINAL Gateway disks. now here is a solution to get the machine and data back.

First you will need to pick up a usb to sata connector. You can get this off ebay for about 10 bucks or at your local computer place for about 20-30 bucks. pull your hard drive and get your data off by plugging this device to another machine. it will recognize the hard drive from your lappy as an additional drive.

The next thing is that even though you did not purchase the unit directly from the manufacturer you still have access to purchase their restore disks through the website.

http://support.gateway.com/support/srt/allsysteminfo.aspx?cmpid=topnav

there is the link, put in your serial and it will give you support options including purchasing your disks. they are fairly inexpensive and is suggested to order anyway. you will need these for future issues that may arise.

reload your machine with your new disks, and drop your previous data on it.

With the restore disks you can attempt to repair now if you decide and if you have important programs to save. If not a clean start with the restore disks is the best bet to correct whatever issue arose to cause the BootMgr to be corrupt or deleted. But all in all you still have your important data because you backed it up using the USB to Sata Connector

Good Luck!

That's too bad you don't have a disc. If only you knew someone with one otherwise try the following

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order given.\015\012\015\012Method 1: Repair the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store by using the Startup Repair option.\015\012
\015\012Use the Startup Repair options in the Windows Recovery Environment to repair the BCD store.\015\012
\015\012
\015\012
    \015\012
  1. Restart the computer. When the Gateway splash screen appears, press the F8 key.\015\012\015\012
  2. \015\012
  3. At Advanced Menu Options, use the arrow keys to select Repair Your Computer and then press the ENTER key.\015\012\015\012
  4. \015\012
  5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate keyboard layout and then click Next.\015\012\015\012
  6. \015\012
  7. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the user account that has Administrator rights, enter the password, and then click OK.\015\012\015\012
  8. \015\012
  9. In the System Recovery Options window, click Startup Repair.\015\012\015\012
  10. \015\012
  11. Follow any prompts and restart the computer when prompted.
\015\012\015\012Method 2: Rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool.\015\012
\015\012If the previous method does not resolve the issue, you can rebuild the\015\012BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery\015\012Environment.\015\012
\015\012
\015\012
    \015\012
  1. Restart the computer. When the Gateway splash screen appears, press the F8 key.\015\012\015\012
  2. \015\012
  3. At the Advanced Menu Options menu, use the arrow keys to select Repair Your Computer, and then press ENTER.\015\012\015\012
  4. \015\012
  5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate keyboard layout and then click Next.\015\012\015\012

  10. \015\012
  11. Type: Bootrec /RebuildBcd and then press ENTER.
    \015\012
      \015\012
    • If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents an\015\012installation path for the Windows directory. To add the entry to the\015\012BCD store, type: Yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.\015\012
    • \015\012
    • If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows\015\012installations, you must remove the BCD store and re-create it. To do\015\012this, type the following commands in the given order, pressing ENTER\015\012after each command.
      \015\012
        Bcdedit /export c:\\BCD_Backup
        \015\012Ren c:\\boot\\bcd bcd.old
        \015\012Bootrec /rebuildbcd
    \015\012\015\012
  12. \015\012
  13. Restart the computer.
\015\012\015\012Method 3: Rebuild the BCD store manually by using the Bcdedit.exe tool.\015\012
\015\012If the previous method does not resolve the issue, rebuild the BCD\015\012store manually by using the Bcdedit.exe tool in the Windows Recovery\015\012Environment.\015\012
\015\012Note: In steps 8, 9, 10, and 11, be sure to type the brackets as shown. They are required for the command to work properly.\015\012
