Having problems with your Gateway PC Desktops ?

Rebooting .. no effect on the monitor black blinking yellow light

\015 I shutdown in "standby" mode and can't get the system to come back and talk to the monitor. \302\240when I turn the system on it seems to be doing a normal reboot ... turns on fan, checks disk drives, but doesn't seem to communicate with the monitor which remains black with a flashing yellow light. \302\240When I restart the monitor, it comes up green but goes to flashing yellow without any change to the black screen.\015\012\015\012I tried using the mouse and hitting all logical keys, including "alt-control-delete" to see if that would do a shutdown but it had NO effect. \302\240\015\012\015\012I read about removing the motherboard battery and rebooting and tried that, but No LUCK there either.\015\012\015\012I had just finished installing Norton 360 prior to putting system in "standby" and the disk was in the DVD drive. \302\240Don't know if that had any effect on this problem. \302\240Removing it and rebooting didn't make any difference.\015\012\015\012I really hope someone can help me since I was working on a project and had data that if not recoverable will cause a lot of additional work for me. \302\240\015\012\015\012I did a backup from Norton 360 before this problem. \302\240Does anyone know if data from that backup can be restored to a different computer?\015\012\015\012Thanks for any help you can give me!!\015\012\015

Hi.
This is a hardware problem. If the machine seems to startup normally (apart from the monitor), then it is commonly caused by the video card coming loose. Turn it on, wait about 2 minutes until the drive activity dies down, then press the power button on the computer once. If the machine shuts down and turns off, then it had booted into windows normally and your data should all still be there. If you have a video card in the machine, unplug it, then re-seat it firmly and try again. If the machine is not booting (it doesn't shut down and turn off with a press of power), then unplug the RAM and the video card and press them back in firmly.
