ATX power on Motherboard not working

\015 Please take a look at the attached picture. I couldn\342\200\231t find a picture of the gateway motherboard, but it is a 4 pin just like in the picture and I\342\200\231m assuming it\342\200\231s the same thing. When I plug in both my ATX Power connector and the 12v ATX power connector, I hear no fan noise or anything. The blue light on the power button comes on, but nothing else. But when I just plug the main ATX Power connector, I hear fan noise but no hard drive noise when I press the power button. This just happened while the computer was sitting there; it shut off and when I tried to turn it back on this happened. Nothing displays on the screen at all. Any ideas? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/Rob8oD/mobo.jpg\015

Answers :

Just to check the voltages coming from the psu. However if your old psu is doing the same it must be something else. Did you try it without the graphics card? and is it the fan in teh psu which is spinning up?

My next port of call would be any other expansion cards, followed by the memory modules. Take them all out apart from one memory module and try to boot.

Also check that the pins from the power button are connected correctly. you can also try starting the pc by touching the two pins together with a metal tipped screw driver.
