Gateway GT4016 new video card not detected

\015 Hi,\015\012\015\012My friend has a gateway GT4016 and he wanted to upgrade it. I got him a Geforce 8400 PCI-Ex16. when I installed it there was no detection of the video card and there was no bios option to disable the integrated video that is on the chip. I tried several times to uninstall the old card but the new one was never detected. I tried talking to the useless gateway support person and he told me disable the video card in the windows HW manager and the new one will be detected. it didn't sound right to me but he's the tech support guy who works for the comany that made the computer so i did it and then the display wouldn't work with windows and i had to reinstall windows to get it back. does the PCI-E x16 slot just not work on this computer or am I missing something? is there a jumper i don't know about?\015

Its not entirely gateways fault but to some extent it is. What you need to do is:

1. check in bios if it has an option to switch from agp to pci for video if you got it switch it

go to safe mode uninstall the previous device reboot and see if the new one is getting detected or not

if its not auto detected try force installation from the cd

let me know how it goes
