Having problems with your Gateway 507GR PC Desktop ?

Keeps cycling to BIOS screen...

\015 I have a Gateway 507GR PC Desktop problem. =(\015\012\015\012Not sure what happened, I didn't do anything risky. I pressed the power button on the tower and the BIOS screen comes up asking if I want to start in safe mode, last good configuration, or normal. I tried all of these and it just cycles back through to that screen. Any idea how to fix this?\015\012\015\012THANKS!\015

It sounds like there is a corrupt file (or files) somewhere in your Windows installation. I'm guessing that you might see a blue screen with white letters and numbers flash up briefly before it cycles back to the boot options for Windows.

It's actually bypassing the BIOS screen if you're seeing the Windows boot options, so chances are it's either a) a problem with Windows or b) a hard drive problem (physically).

My first suggestion, if you can't boot into Safe Mode, is that you boot off your Windows CD and do a Repair. When prompted, DO NOT format the drive in either NTFS or FAT32 (you should have an option that says 'Leave file system intact (no changes)'. This will install a copy of Windows over your existing installation but won't wipe out your personal data files. There is always a chance you'll lose your My Documents but that's slim. Hopefully you have a good backup done recently.

This isn't the optimal way to go, but it should take care of the issue. I would recommend doing what I've suggested, backing up your data, and then doing a fresh installation of Windows.

Let me know if I can be of further help. If you have access to another computer with a CD burner, download the free Ultimate Boot CD. Pop the case off your computer and check the hard drive to see what brand it is. At that point you can boot from the Ultimate Boot CD, run Hard Disk Tools, and then run the appropriate hard drive diagnostics tools for your particular hard drive brand. If the advanced/long test comes back with no error messages, you can rule out physical hard drive issues and be more or less certain that the problem you're experiencing has to do with your software.
