Over heating, possible fan problem

\015 Hello,I love my laptop so much that I have a hard time giving it up. The problem is it over heats then shuts down and I think the fan doesn't run right, is there a way I can replace the face or what do you suggest?\015

If the fan *is* the problem, it's probably clogged up with lint, pet hair, carpet fibers, cigarette tar, etc., etc. For a first step, find the vent on the laptop where the hot air enters the laptop when the fan spins. I call this the "intake port". Put your lips up to this port, creating an air-tight seal around the laptop....then blow air into the port as hard as you can. Be careful not to blow spit into the port. The air you blow into the port *should* make the fan spin, and create a soft whhhiiiiIIIIRRRR!!!!! that last about half a second. If you don't hear the fan, the bearings on it are probably seized up, and the fan will need to be replaced. Sometimes you can fix a fan with a drop of oil in it's shaft, but that's another topic. At any rate, while you're blowing into the intake port, keep your eyes on the exhaust port...the spot where hot air *comes out* of the laptop. If all sorts of dirt and lint start flying out of the exhaust port, your problem was being caused by said lint and dust blocking air-flow through the laptop's internal heat sink. You can *usually* knock all the offending matter out of a laptops cooling system by repeatedly blowing into the exhaust port.....but sometimes you have to take the laptop apart and manually pick it out. Ditto that if you can't get the fan to make the whirring noise. Some people eschew my techniques by using cans full of compressed air, though I've had better luck just blowing into the machine's intake port. Hope this helps....
It sounds like a heat sink issue. This happens when dust builds up in the pc. You could go online and see just how complicated it is to open up the laptop... search replacing cooling fan/cleaning heat sink. Or I would try a can of compressed air, shoot it into the exhaust area on the pc hopefully this could be a simple inexpensive fix to your problem. But if the fan is shot it wont cool properly and it will continue to shut down to save the pc from frying. good luck
