Having problems with your E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC ?

Ram upgrades I am upgrading 2 e-machines computers with Ram. My question is what order to fill the slots with memory. The first machine is a T4200 which has 3 slots in it and holds a 1.5 gb max. I am adding 2 sticks of 512 mb each to the factory installed 256 mb. Assuming the current stick is in slot 1, do I now put in a 512 each in slots 1 & 2, then place the 256 in slot 3? The second machine is a T3624 with 2 slots and a 2 gb max. I am replacing the current 256mb stick with one each at 1gb & 5

Hello there,

----

Although these are all types of double data rate (DDR) memory, the varying numbers refer to the different speeds of memory your computer was designed for. Crucial no longer carries PC2100 (DDR266) memory, but PC2700 (DDR333) memory and PC3200 (DDR400) are backward-compatible with PC2100.

Memory is designed to be backward-compatible, so generally speaking, you can safely add faster memory to a computer that was designed to run slower memory. However, your system will operate at the speed of the slowest module or system component (the "lowest common denominator" effect).

One thing to keep in mind is that the memory does need to be the same type-for example, SDRAM cannot be mixed with DDR, and DDR cannot be mixed with DDR2. We recommend that you use the Crucial Memory Advisor™ or System Scanner tools to find the right memory for your computer.

Yours truly,
Jack d.

Assuming the empty slots are for memory then just add the 2 new sticks to empty locations and leave the original one in place. The order shouldn't matter, just the overall combined amount. With the t4200 you should get a total spec of about 1.25gb depending on the operating system.
\015\012With the t3624 you'll have to pull the exhisting stick to free up a slot for one of your new ones. You'll have about 1.5gb once you're done with the install.Again, overall ram total is what counts, not the order.
\015\012Just play it safe and make sure you're correct on the locations and memory type/capacity. Check out Crucial.com and run a free system scan for your memory type and capacity. Belarc Advisor is a good program too. Good luck..

Hi there. I have an HP a6500f. Came pre-loaded with 4GB RAM. Worked fine for a year then started freezing/restarting/BSOD randomly. Ran memory diagnostics and got a BIOME-1 error with both sticks, but it passed with one (in either slot and either stick). Lots of random freezing even with only the 1 2GB RAM. I bought 2 new 2GB DDR2 DIMMS and put them both in and got the same BIOME-1 failure, but passed with only 1 (again...tested both slots with both new sticks). I was running Vista Home Pre
