Having problems with your Dell XPS M1710 Notebook ?

Can my hard drive be salvaged? Recently, while using my laptop (XPS m1710), an error came up :'Hard Disk Failure'. It then told me to back up all of my data. While I was doing this, one big file stalled explorer, and the computer tried to re-boot. It keeps coming up with a restore screen on start-up though. I ran a diagnostics check booting from a disc (I took the hard drive out to do this) but it can't test the hard drive (when I put it back in). It comes up with these 2 errors: 0F00:133E - IDE

You can definitely get another one, as long as it's compatible with your system...get the original specs from dell, then search online at western digital, tiger direct, etc. etc.Many online sites will have recommendations for your system.

What i've done in the past is to hook up the hard drive from your laptop to a normal desktop computer. You will need the right hookups to hook the power and the cable from the laptop hard drive to your desktop computer.

Once you hook up your hard drive to the desktop computer then you can try and do a copy and paste of the items you want from the laptop hard drive to the desktop hard drive and then burn the files to a blank dvd or cd. If you can't do this then the hard drive is beyond damaged and you won't be able to recover any data.
