Trying to upgrade RAM

\015 I have a Dell Optiplex GX260,and I had two 512MB strips in it,and it worked OK.I don't know what possessed me to try to upgrade this.I bought two 1GB strips-which the guy told me were compatible(had multiple speeds---he named them). He said they would clock down and all of that stuff. The computer BEEPS,so I read about this being a problem with the RAM.I took them back and he told me to upgrade my BIOS.According to my start-up screen I have BIOS Revision A02.I got on Dell's Webpage and saw that A09 is the latest,so I thought I could download that.It says to basically either load it onto a 3.5'' formatted floppy, and then use this disc to FLASH THE BIOS-whatever that is.Hey-No Problem I guess.Either that or load it onto your C drive, and then put it onto a 3.5'' formatted floppy and do the FLASH.The problem is the file size is 2.0MB.All 3.5'' formatted floppy discs are 1.44MB.Does anyone have a solution to this?I thought about just running the program from C,but people tell me that this won't work.Is there a solution to this?Either that,or I am taking these strips back to the dude, and my two 512MB strips back-I didn't have a prob with them. From reading, also on sites where they sell the sticks, they say use the lower value between what Dell says is the max for this computer(2048),and what Windows says(I have XP PRO)-which says 4G,so I am going with the two,but first I need to do the BIOS upgrade, which the dude swears would make these sticks work.Does this sound like good info? THANK YOU for goiving me the solution,or even pointing me in the right direction!!! OK the computer when I put in the product, won't let me enter this info, but I have the BIG (WIDE) Tower, not the mini-tower or the flat version(model).\015

Answers :

Since the BIOS update is too big for a floppy, why not burn it to a CD and boot to the CD to flash your BIOS with the update?
These are the exact specs for the memory that will work in your machine.
