Having problems with your Dell Latitude D800 Notebook ?

I have a Dell Latitude D800 Fails to boot OS's

\015 I have a Dell Latitude D800 that i bought off a friend when he couldnt fix it. Ive tried everything i can think of to get this machine going, but everything fails. It was originally a windows XP machine, but it was having issues booting up. It would only boot into safe mode when i got it. I decided to put a distro of Linux on it. It will allow me to partition the drive and install but when i boot i get "Error loading OS" so i tried another version of Linux.. and another... and another... Most versions of linux wont even boot up the liveCD. Ive tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu, GRML, PCLinuxOS 2009, the only version i have that will boot is pclinuxos P6, which is horribly out of date. Most of the time, what happens when booting from cd, is it gets to the stage where it is starting the OS then the cd stops running. However pclinuxos-p6 will boot fully but with no audio, and everything else works fine, I just cant install to the drive. We have tested the machine with numerous checks, and all the hardware checks out, the BIOS checks out, The RAM is fine... everything with it is in perfect working order according to every test i can think of doing to this thing.\015

Did you try a different copy of Windows installation? The only reason I know that a setup might be disrupted is a faulty installation. It definitely doesn't sound like the HD is ruined. I also doubt that installing a Linux system would help you much, it involves much work with the drivers, and you may want to spare that from yourself.
There is another slight possibility that your HD is not identified correctly by the installation. For example, if you have a sata HD, the windows may not identify it as a know disc, but again- most chances is that it is recognized. Just to be sure, I would advise you to go into your BIOS setup, and in the startup sequel look for your HD. If you see that it is fully identified by the BIOS, it shouldn't be the problem.
I think that your main problem is actually disorder. I would advise you to start from scratch, backup your data using the safe mode, and then format the computer completely using an original version of windows, which has bootable option. This will allow you to have a cleanup version of the windows, and you can start from there.\015\012It doesn't sound like you have a hardware failure to me. It looks as if something was installed incorrectly on the winodws and disabled it from loading correctly. You probably have just a few corrupted system files. \015\012The whole trying to install several different systems on your system resulted a total chaos. \015\012I really think that you can only benefit from a fresh start and a full format.\015\012Please feel free to update me with anything
