Dell Latitude ATG630 Notebook screen light not working

\015 I have a problem with my Dell Latitude ATG630 Notebook, the computer switches on but the screen is very dark and you can just make out the picture, I presume its something to do with the back light, but any help on getting a fix would be great.\015\012\015\012Many Thanks Steve\015

If you can see anything even faintly most likely its the backlight....unfortunately it requires you taking off the plastic (bezel) round the screen (approx 4 screws)...then unscrewing the screen from the hinge mountings (approx another 4 screws) then unplugging the video ribbon cable...now you'll have enough room to get at the backlight (like a small flourescent bulb)...backlights themselves aren't that expensive but it is a competant persons job since it is possible to damage the screen by overtightening the screws...if you feel comfortable with doing it yourself you'll need a maintenance manual...if you know your screen size you can order the backlight from the manufacturer or off ebay...if the machine is still under warranty take it straight back to where you bought it and have them fix it

Sometimes I can use my computer for about 15 minutes, sometimes over an hour. I don't know what I should do. I'm not sure if my fan is not working right or what. I notice that there is a light next to the battery charge light that turns off, and that's when I notice the computer freezing. What is that light?
