DST result fails

\015 When tried to take DST test for booting the laptop, the test failed.. please help\015\012\015\012Hi there,I had the same problem for the first time on my Latitude D610. My computer had been in standby; when I tried to resume, the screen was black with no apparent CPU or hard drive activity. On restarting, my BIOS informed me that one of my memory sticks was corrupted and couldn't be used (they've been working fine for years). Restarting again seemed to indicate things were a-ok again, but I ran the diagnostic check to be sure. Memory passed the test just fine, but it failed the "DST Short Status Test" almost instantly, with "Error: 1000-0142", Message Unit 4, and status byte 70. I mention all this because I'm actually writing this post on the same machine! Startup continued just fine after the diagnostic and I've no apparent issues in Windows (memory is as it should be). Chkdsk has turned up about 15 bad indices, but this isn't too uncommon. So depending on the actual DST Short failure, you may not need to get a new drive (though that would certainly be a workable solution). Do you have data on the drive you wanted to save?\015

Answers :

I would say this is the memory. You said that you checked the memory, and it passed, but did you download a cd called 'memtest x86' ? This will definately make sure your RAM isn't cooked. You boot off of this disc and let it go for a couple hours, it will tell you if it finds errors. Also, if it's the harddrive, you can just replace the harddrive, and then hook it up via USB and retrieve your information.
