Having problems with your Dell Inspiron B130 Notebook ?
Computer locked up and can't get into anything
\015 Computer comes up but won't do anything.\015\0121st "The device in modular bay cannot be identified. etc, etc." Press 'esc' to ignore and goes on into loading.\015\0122nd On opening screen - "Active Desk Top Recovery", whatever you do here makes no difference\015\0123rd Then - "avast!: INI file modification" A program is attempting to modify. Yes or no answer doesn't help\015\0124th Attempt to go into "Control Panel" (or any program) but looks like is processing, but hour glass goes away very soon and no function happens.\015\012\015\012Tried to do 'Control - F11' to go in and do 'reimaging' to factory specs, but will not go into\015\012Student friend tried to load Avast! virus, etc. protection from internet and immediately locked system. Computer did have McAfee protection awhile back and think McAfee and Avast! are working against each other. Would like to take system back to factory installed by reimaging, but can do nothing.\015\012What di I do??????\015
Try starting in safe mode and remove the offending program.
- Start the laptop \015\012
- After the Dell Screen vanishes begin pressing F8 \015\012
- You will get a Windows Startup Screen \015\012
- Select SafeMode and press enter twice \015\012
- Windows should load up \015\012
- Go into Control Panel Add Remove Programs \015\012
- Remove the anti virus software and anything else you suspect maybe causing grief. \015\012
- Restart the laptop normally and see what happens. \015\012
- Hopefully by now you will be able to go back and do the factory imaging.
Well, my personal advise is to restore the systems, which mean that you need the windows disk an reinstall everything from zero...
