\015 About 6 months ago I got a thin pink line on the screen of my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) and was told it was pixal loss and the only way to fix it was a new screen which cost several hundred dollars. Today I got another one just a different color. They are very thin and so far don't bother me but is it a sign of something else. Why is this happening?\015\012Thanks\015\012Alene Barrett\015

Call Dell. Last night I booted up my Inspiron 9300 and saw the line. The laptop is 3 years old and I was not happy. So I started searching the web and found out this is a common problem with some dell laptops especially the 9300's. I also came across several message boards where people were reporting that Dell was replacing the screens free of charge. So I called Dell this morning. While I was on the phone for quite sometime while the customer service rep researched the problem and placed the order, they are sending out a shipping box for me to return the laptop to have the screen replaced free of charge.

Sometimes this is a sign of the monitor ribbon disconnecting from your motherboard. If you feel confident in taking your computer apart, you can reseat the cable and see if this improves. Usually pixels die individually, lines tend to be a video card error.
