Having problems with your Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook ?

The AC adapter connection is very sensitive to position. If I just plug in the adapter, the computer doesn't seem to get any power (stays on battery power.) If I move it around, most of the time I can get a connection. I seem to really have to pull it in one direction or another to get a connection?

Answers :

You have a very common problem where the power cord has been jerked to one side or the other previously and Cracked the power jack housing on the motherboard. There are 2 options, buy a replacement jack and have it installed, or buy a replacement motherboard and install it. Cost either way is roughly $100. It may be hard finding someone locally who can successfully solder the 7 connections on the jack/motherboard. Replacing the motherboard is about an hour job for anyone familiar with working on a portable system. \015\012http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/sysboard.htm#wp1000473
