DELL Inspiron 5150 isnt booting
\015 My Dell inspiron 5150 has worked fine for a while. then one day i left it running and was doing something else and i noticed the screen display "Hibernating" i figured the power cord had been bumped loose and it had been running on battery. So i went and made sure the cord was secured and started it back up. The icon that displays battery or AC continued to display battery, I shut down windows and powered the computer down. I noticed that the green indicater light that usually comes on when the battery is charging would not come on. I fiddled with the power cord and got it to flicker then stay on. i left the computer to charge for a little bit and 20 minutes later noticed the light wasnt on. i tried to power up the computer and the fans would spin for 10-15 secs, the screen did nothing and then it would power off. i decided to open it up and upon doing so noticed that the power jack had a broken pin so i did a little temporary repair and made sure the connection was good. NOW when i start the computer- still the screen does not even flicker; the power indicater comes on; drives spin; and fans whir for a few seconds and then it just sits there with indicator light on. ive tried this with no battery, using just AC- same thing. ive tried using only battery- same thing. ive reseated memory chips, ive tried powering up with HD removed- same thing. ive read lots of threads, and i refuse to believe that the motherboard is fried. So what else could it be?\015
If it doesn't respond at all with no ram or hdd, it is likely that the board is in fact dead.....sorry. When you say you found a broken pin, I assume you mean one of the contacts from the power jack to the main board had a cracked solder joint and you resoldered it. If this is the case, try disconnecting and reconnecting the connector from the lcd panel to the mainboard. It may just not be making contact. Also, if you boot up with the hd installed, do you see the hd activity led flashing like at a normal boot? If not, sounds like a dead board. Try pulling the optical drive too if you haven't already. Try connecting to an external monitor too.
Hope this helps!
