Having problems with your Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook ?

Windows trouble I have a Dell Inspiron 1501. I turned it on and the screen was black showing lots of writing and it said it was checking C: drive to check it was consistant. Once this was complete it loaded as normal, then a message appeared saying there was a problem with windows and i needed to download something( i cant remember what). Before I had time to connect to the internet it froze and the screen went black. I then turned my laptop off and back on again, it went back to the original sc

This problem occurs on many people's laptops and desktops.

Restart your computer, while it is starting up, press the keyboard key F8.

This is located on the very first row on your keyboard.

A black screen will appear and some choices will be displayed.

Choose Safe Mode with Networking which is the first option from this menu. Choose it by using your down arrow key and your option will be highlighted. Press enter once highlighted.

Now let windows start.

Now go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager
See if there are any yellow question marks or exclamation marks.
If there are, go ahead and right click on each one and choose update drivers.
Follow the prompts to complete updating the drivers.

Now let's restart your computer and see if this problem reoccurs.

This time don't go into safe mode.

It will check the C drive if there is an inconsistency in the hard drive.
If this problem reoccurs then you want to do the F8 again.

This time start the system in Safe Mode With command prompt.
type in chkdsk c: /f /r

If it prompts you to answer yes then do so then click enter.

When it is finished, go ahead and restart the computer by typing exit.

If this doesn't fix your problem, then you may have a bad sector in your hard drive. In that case, you may want to contact Dell to replace your hard drive or your nearest computer store.
