Having problems with your Dell Inspiron 1420 Notebook ?

Overheating I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 that seems to be overheating. It gets hot enough to burn your skin, but only on the left side. I checked the fan and vent for dust and they are both clean. The fan is working. I am not sure what to do, but I have to have my computer for my online classes. Please Help! Thanks!

Answers :

Ok fan is working and vent holes are clean. well you must have to purchase a laptop cooler. Buy a design well suited for your bottom part.

Or purchase a fan design cooler which will coincide where the most heat is generated. Or one big fan that will cool down the heated part.

This will also added to heat generation. But much better than no fan at all. Also it will deplete much faster your laptop when not plug on AC socket. Try to select lower amperes sink but have better cooling effeciency

Hope this helps.
There is a difference between getting hot and overheating. Most current model portable systems will have portions of the bottom of the chassis that will get hot enough to burn skin due to the location of the processor and the heat sink. \015\012
\015\012If the system is overheating you will have some if not all the following symptoms:\015\012\015\012
    \015\012
  1. System is crashing at boot of within a few minutes of operation.
  2. \015\012
  3. System is slow
  4. \015\012
  5. System is giving blue screen errors
  6. \015\012
  7. Fans either run constantly at high speed or do not fun at all.
  8. \015\012
  9. System restarts unexpectedly.
\015\012If your system is overheating, here is the Dell Troubleshooting Wizard for that system:\015\012
\015\012http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/tree?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&treeid=5B6BB978941A56A1E040AE0AB7E17881&journalid=75416C6BA391B4BEE040AE0AB8E13529&Query=bGFwdG9w&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1420&ServiceTag=&contenttype=-1&os=-1&component=-1&lang=-1&doclang=en&toggle=false\015\012
\015\012But: If the only issue a an isolated hot spot on the bottom of the system (No Crashes, reboots, blue Screens, Errors or fan racing all the time) then my answer is the system is operating as designed. Due to ever increasing processor speeds & lighter and thinner designs hot spots on bottom of the system are not unusual. Manufacturers will tell you to use the system on a hard FLAT surface that allows maximum airflow. Use on a lap, carpet, bed, blanket or other soft surface that can impede airflow will result in the system running hotter, and in some cases overheating. This is why the Lapdesk market has become very popular. \015\012
