Having problems with your Dell Inspiron 1000 Notebook ?

Dell 1000 Inspiron won't get past start up screen, frozen

\015 I turn on the power, and I get the Dell start up screen. At the bottom is a gray bar with "Press to enter Setup or to enter Boot Menu". I have tried to enter both, and they just say "Entering Setup..." or "Entering Boot Menu..." and nothing happens. Also, it won't shut off when I hit the power button, I need to unplug it. Seems like everything is frozen. I would like to be able to get some of the files off it - if anyone can help me.It's been a while since I have started this laptop.\015

Had this exact problem on the same model (Dell Inspiron 1000) laptop. Solution was simple: remove battery, problem goes away. I guess the battery was so far gone it was hanging the BIOS on startup.
Try booting this laptop without the battery installed running only on the AC adaptor
