Having problems with your Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor ?

Sounds like the backlight is going out. The display itself is okay, but without the backlight you can't see it (or you may be able to see it very dimly if you look closely). This is usually due to the failure of parts called capacitors in the monitor's power supply, although it could also be due to the backlight lamp itself. Capacitors are a much more likely cause.

It is possible to repair this by replacing the affected parts, but if you will have to pay someone else to make the repair you may just want to replace the monitor. New 17-inch monitors are routinely under $100 now. If you or someone you know has some experience working with electronic soldering and replacing components, you might be able to find detailed information on the Web about which parts need to be changed.
There are 4 transistor C5707 these overheat and go bad i would say you are see the beginng of a the transistor getting readyto fail yes there are also cap that go bad in those monitor alot but the transistor ire the swithch that control the back light power any flicker in power in the circuit will cause the bck light to shut down turn off the high voltage to the back lights all way look at the caps for the top to be bulging up it is a dead give away of bad caps. but my for about 5 dollars in parts it would be like new again
