Having problems with your Dell Dimension E521 PC Desktop ?

My computer is the Dell desktop dimension E521. I was told by a technician that the roaring and the grinding noise was coming from the hard drive. That this is something that happens over a period of time.

(I'm having a brain melt down so I'll have to correct some things if they were wrong later, when my migraine pass.) \015\012\015\012First thing I would do would be Open the PC up. \015\012Also keep in mind to not keep anything magnetic close by your PC case/tower, this could cause static shocks to the eletroncial parts inside. Use a wrist band that transfers your eletrical charge that you touch or from your body to the metal case. \015\012\015\012Clean the dust buildup and whatever else may be obstrucing the fans. First remove all power sources going in and out of the pc; unplug everything and bring it away from eletronical things. \015\012\015\012Buy a dust remover airsol can, can be found by computer related products at walmart or wherever you buy your pc things. This should clean out some if not all of the dust. Bring your PC back and hook up everything. If that helped, it was just your pc needed dusting, should be done once a month. IF that didn't help, buy a new Hard drive as told. \015\012\015\012This process is time consuming and could take you the whole day depending on your PC.\015\012\015\012If your PC is open, hook up the new HD as secondary drive. Just follow the cable where your hold HD is and you should find there are plugs on the lower part for an extra drive. Insert your drive and power source into the drive. When your done, turn on your pc with your monitor hooked up. While it is starting up press F8 (I forget which one just try all the F1-12 to be sure ^^) It should bring you up to a screen that talks about your PC settings. Find the screen that talks about Primary and Secondary Drive, set your new drive as Secondary so your PC can read it. Once done save and exit. \015\012\015\012Log on your PC, now you should have 2 drives, your old and new one. If you can, install your OS onto the new drive. Once finish, find the drivers. If you need help, you can ask me and we can Q&A to find them for you. Once everythings done and if all goes to plan. Take out your primary drive (old hard drive) and place in your new one (Basically switching both HD spots so your PC can read your new HD as first instead of 2nd). Your old drive you can place as your 2ndary drive for extra storage, but don't rely on it so much since the whole process was about replacing the dying HD; so maybe it would be best to keep it as a backup to your files incase you misplace or accidentally delete a file. Do the F1-12 thing agian and set each drive where they should be.\015\012ig. Hardrive Segate 1(your old HD) as secondary and Hardrive segate 2(your 2nd HD/replacement) is Primary.\015\012\015\012Then you should be fine. Hope this works.
Hi there.
The best way to determine if it is the hard drive, take off the side panel of the tower and listen for where the noise is coming from.
If the grinding sound is coming fro the hard drive then the technician you talked to is right and yes they can get louder over time.

My Dell Dimension E510 is making a "whirring" noise. It whirls loudly when I turn it on, like something inside is struggling to get up to speed. The computer takes more time than usual to become operable and open programs. Then with the computer on, the "whirring" comes and goes, it is more quite, but more uneven. Sounds like it's going fast sometimes, then speeds up and back and forth. I've opened the computer and cleaned the dust out of it. That didn't help. HELP. VHS
