Dell diminsion E510 power up

\015 It is about 2 years old--yellow flashing light on power up button. Unplugged all from system, plugged power back in and it powered up. Had side cover off and saw fans running. Within 10 minutes, no power. Repeated steps powered up and seems to be running better, but what causes this issue? Is there a problem surfacing that needs to be addressed? How to fix the issue\015

A few years ago Dell went a little "cheap" when they considered the power supply system on the XPS and Dimension systems. The result is weak or completely faulty motherboard capacitors. They are the small, cylidrical, battery-looking (like if you cut a AA in half) components scattered about the board. The fix is usually not very cost-efficient, in most cases costing more than if you just replaced the entire board. They (Dell) had a recall posted, but I think the time has passed to file a claim. The light turning yellow when it SHOULD be green is a power problem, and with this situation being on a pretty large scale, I'd get the system's PSU and motherboard tested by a local computer repair center. I had the same problem (evidently) and a replacement board cost me around $100 USD. For the local shop to replace the faulty capacitors would've cost me around $80 USD. Good Luck!
Hi stan...

it's possible that there are some loose connections in there... be sure to disconnect your computer from the power source before checking this, or anything else inside your pc. you may want to look at the connections that go from your power buttons to the mother board... don't disconnect them unless you're sure you know how to put them back in the right places. also be careful not to loosen anything else while you do this.

it is also possible that your power box is failing... if this is the case, eventually your pc will just not go on at all. it's not a very expensive thing to replace, i don't know where you are in the world, but in spain the box costs between 20-30 euros and the labour is about the same price.

so first, check your cable connections, and look at the wires to see that they aren't stripped in any places (if that's the case some electrical tape may do the trick) and if all seems ok and the problem persists... you will probably need to change the power box.

hope that helps!
