Our speakers are pluged into the light green port we are getting a buzzing noice but no audio

Answers :

First check you dont have a red line through your speaker on your toolbar. If so click it and "UN-mute it.

Check that the speakers are plugged into the GREEN port on the back of the computer and that the speakers are powered up with the volume at about 1/2 way.
\015\012
\015\012Make sure the plug is all the way in ! and that the power supply is OK if it is an external one

Open volume control.

If the volume contol on your computer is greyed out then you need to check the hardware from the control panel.

When the box with all the sliders opens up click on OPTIONS (top left)
Click PROERTIES

Make sure that Volume controls, Wave, SW Synth, CD PLayer, Line IN, and MIC all show on there and that the volume sliders are about half way up.

Make sure noe of the sliders have ticks at the bottom, if so UNTICK them.

If any of those are missing click options then properties from the top left and put a tick besides any that were missing
(nothing else unles you know you want that item)

Now close the slider box.

Put a normal music cd in your cd/dvd player on the computer and set it to play with windows media player.

You should now have sound out of the speakers.

If not double check that you have no problems with your hardware from the device manager.

If you have any exclamation marks by any hardware you need to sort that out. (maybe drivers first)
\015\012
\015\012It could be a power supply issue but the steps above will prove that or otherwise
The easiest thing to check is move the speaker connection to another port until you have tried them all. You can do this while the computer is on and an audio file is playing with no threat of harm to your computer.

If you have tried all the ports and get only a buzzing sound from each of them proceed with Bob's troubleshooting.

Many computers have an auto-sensing feature that tries to determine what has been plugged into an audio port. Unfortunately it does not always detect correctly and then sets the wrong settings. Moving the plug from port to port will almost always get around this problem.
