Having problems with your Dell Dimension 3000® Pentium® 4 2.8GHz, 256MB, 80GB, 48x CD-RW PC Desktop ?

When i turn the pc on it goes to hit f1 to cont of f2 and then it says it can not read the hard drive

Answers :

Before doing anything else power off the machine, remove the cover and then make sure that the power and data cables are seated correctly in the Hard Disk. Reboot the machine and see if this works. If not then turn off the power and swap the hard disk power supply for one of the spare plugs in the unit and try again. If this fails then Restart the machine and hit F12 or DEL to go to the BIOS. Take a look at the standard settings to see if the system can see your hard disk or not. If it can this is better than if it cannot. If you have a system restore CD then change the startup order in the BIOS so that the first device that the system looks for is the CD/DVD. Place the restore disk in the CD/DVD drive then save and exit the BIOS settings. The system will then reboot from the CD/DVD and read the restore disk. Then follow the instructions on screen to hopefully restore your system. If the Hard Disk is not recognised then you have more of a problem but try the same restore process as above. If you do not have a restore disk but have an operating system CD then place this disk in the CD/DVD drive and go through the process above. Once this starts up choose the Repair Option and follow the instructions on screen. You may be successful in restoring / rebuilding your machine but you may have to face the fact that some of your data may be lost. If it fails then at worst you will have to buy a new hard drive.
First open cpu cabinet.
Then reattach both connection cable power cable and sata or ide cable to harddrive.
Then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios then check there your harddisk is detected?
If your harddisk is detected in bios you can boot your harddrive.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.
