Having problems with your Dell A525 Computer Speakers ?

Speakers too loud

\015 After a year and a half of use, my speakers have suddenly increased in volume. I have to set the volume on my volume mixer down in the single digits and I have to turn my speaker dial way down (Almost off!) just to get the volume into an acceptable range. I thought it might have been my onboard audio, but after purchasing a new sound card, the problem remains.\015

Answers :

I assume you are talking about a set of speakers which are connected to your sound card out port.
This is unusual as you have described it.

Are the speakers you now have amplified? If they are you may be able to get a lower sound level by removing the power to the speakers. Another thing to check here is to make sure that, if they are powered speakers (by that I mean they have a separate power supply to boost the sound) and not simple speakers, that they are plugged into the correct outlet port.
There are at least three ports on most sound cards, namely mic in (mic), Line in (in), Line out (out)... and some sound cards also have spk-out (this port is usually for small non-boosted speakers). Depending on the kind of sound card, this can vary a bit.
So there will be a difference between the out put from the out or Line Out as compared to the spk-out or spk.

If you seem to be having problems yet, then why not try another set of speakers. You may be able to borrow a set from someone or if you have another set.
A possible thing which could be happening if the speakers are boosted or powered is that the power supply could be going bad and allowing more voltage to the speakers than normal, which in effect would cause the volume to go up. This is a possibility in my mind, not that I ever had it to happen.
