No sound out left channel I-Trigue 3300 2.1

\015 For what it's worth...\015\012I read all the posts, searched for a shop manual, no joy - starting to think Creative never intended for these things to be repairable.\015\012Managed to unstick the PCB from the back panel to get access to the solder joints. Touched up a few but didn't find any dry ones. Also checked the volume control connector for bent pins. No joy.\015\012Getting low level white noise from the left channel, like the others. White noise appears to disappear at high volume. Suggests the power amp stage is still working (principly the two CT1975-SAM Creative ICs attached to the heat sink) so went looking into the preamp stage. With no CRO available I decided to replace the two 8-pin DIP ICs, both are dual op ams but slightly different part numbers. Speaker wires for the sub exit the left CT1975, so I first replaced the dual op amp (4556AD) on the other side, thinking it was the preamp for the satellite speakers. No joy. Changed the other one (sub side, 4558CN) just for the hell of it. Still no joy, but now the volume in the satellites is constant no matter what the volume control is set at. I now suspect that one of the M51132L 2ch electronic volume balancers has died. These things adjust the volume of a signal based on a DC level input - Google them. There are 2 of these on the board, they're long and narrow, one must control the sub gain and the other the overall volume. Not much good since I haven't found a source for new ones, they must be a special purpose item. I've given up, but thought this might be useful to others.\015

Hey, I had that same problem and looked over it with my Dad, who's very technically minded. Here's what he found:

We also had no/weak sound on the left channel of the I-Trigue 3300 2.1. Here's what we found (starting where you left off...).
\015\012The internal bias for the input pin for the left channel on the M51132L\015\012(pin two on the M51132L between the heat sink and the connectors)\015\012appears to have failed. It was sitting at an operating point of around\015\01211 volts (should be 5.4V as the others were) and was only capacitor\015\012coupled to other nodes (the input at 0V bias and the chips reference on\015\012pin 4 at 5.4V) so it wasn't a case of capacitor leakage. Our temporary\015\012fix was to hang a 10k resistor between the node on pin 2 (with the\015\012failed bias) and the node on pin 4 (a good bias source). The easiest\015\012place to hang it was across the cap that connected to those two nodes.\015\012 That pulled pin 2 far enough from the rail (down to around 9 volts) to\015\012allow it to work at the levels we drive it at while we look for a\015\012replacement part. The expectation is that with this kludge in place\015\012the left channel will distort before the right one will when the drive\015\012level is increased however, for the tests so far, the right and left\015\012channel now both work equally well.

Hope this helps you!

I just fixed it! turn out when the left audio goes out and everything seems to be ok, a chip has failed on the main board. If u take the circut board look at \012JP310 and solder pins 8 and 9 the sound will return, An easy way to make sure you have the right pins is to use a paper clip to bridge them together and see if the sound returns. Dont be afraid to have it powered while testing, the current isnt enough to hurt you, of course though be careful.
