Having problems with your Compaq PC Desktops ?

\015 Ok i neeed help!!!!!!!! on my power supply there is a switch which you can move to 115 volts to 230 volts. everytime i switch it to 230 volts the computer wont turn on? why is this happening? when i put it back on 115 volts, my computer turns on. why is this happening PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!!!!\015

Answers :

Unless your household electrical service is running at 230 volts, there's absolutely no reason to set your supply for 230. When you choose the 230v setting the supply REQUIRES 230 volts to become operational...Which is not going to happen on a 115 volt service.
You are telling the power supply that it is being hooked up to a 230volt mains power line. You would need to live somewhere like England for that to be the appropriate setting. In the USA it should be set to 115. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WorldMap_Voltage%26Frequency.png for a brief overview of who uses 110/115v and who uses 110/230v.
