Having problems with your ASUS Eee 4G Notebook ?

Black screen I got a new computer. I wanted to restore my old computer (Dell 2350 XP) to factory. I was told to put in the service pack 2 CD. I did that but after it installed it my screen resolution was bad & it wouldn't let me change it. I am new to this computer thing & obviously did something wrong. Because my screen now goes black after the Dell logo & Windows logo. Then I hear a beep. If I hit an F# key it says Key board error or keyboard not found. I tried another keyboard but sam

Hello,
\015\012 Unfortunately the previous expert left the question open and I had to grab it..
\015\012 Here is the complete solution .. although it might seem to be hugh but its screen by screen description of what is going to happen and what we are going to select so please do not get intimidated by the lenght of the solution.
\015\012 By following the steps below, you will repair your computer and will not loose the data and installations on your system .. so its a NON DESTRUCTIVE RECOVERY of the system.
\015\012
Start your PC with the setup CD in a drive, and hit a key when you see the message "Press any key to boot from CD"
If instead of booting to the CD your PC boots from the hard drive, you may need to modify your PC's "boot order." It's easy and only takes a minute to make the change so that the PC will check for a bootable CD before trying to boot from the hard drive. It done from the BIOS setup screen.

Once your PC starts to boot from the CD, you'll see something like "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware..."

After a minute or two, you'll see the "Windows Setup/Setup is starting Windows" screen. Don't be alarmed.. It's still just the setup process running, and nothing's been changed on your PC yet.

Soon after above Screen, you'll be presented with the normal "Welcome to Setup" screen".

Hit Enter, just as if you were setting up Windows afresh and from scratch.

Press F8 to accept the licensing terms and to go on.

Next, the XP setup process will show another screen that you may recall from your initial setup of XP. It searches for "a previous version of Microsoft Windows." In our case, we're not replacing a previous version of Windows, but rather repairing the very same version that's on the setup CD--but that's OK; it's just another poorly worded screen.

Setup should find your damaged copy of XP and present it for repair

If your damaged copy of XP isn't highlighted in the list box, highlight it now. When it's selected, press R to start the repair process.

The Repair process then selectively deletes system files in the \\Windows folder and subfolders and copies undamaged replacement files from the setup CD to their proper locations.

The system then needs to reboot and will do so automatically. If your setup CD is still in the drive, remove it so that the system won't try to boot from it.

The first Repair reboot will take longer than normal.

Please Don't be alarmed when Setup resumes. Once again, it will appear that you're performing a full, from-scratch setup; there's nothing on-screen to indicate that you're repairing an existing version of XP. But although the setup screens are the same as what you'd see in a full install, it's still a repair process, as will become clearer in a moment.

Follow the normal steps.

When this portion of the Repair is done, you'll see a "completing installation" screen

Setup then reboots your PC again, and this reboot will also take longer than usual. This is normal.

After the reboot, you'll be brought to an abbreviated version of the "Welcome To Windows" setup pages.

You'll be asked if you want to register and--depending on how badly hosed the previous installation was--you may or may not be asked to reactivate the copy of Windows. Next, the setup software handles the final networking details and then offers a "thank you" screen.

In most cases, the system will now reboot for a final time. The Repair is done. It's a normal boot, bringing you to the normal choices for login.

If all has gone as planned, you'll find all the user accounts and passwords intact, all the hardware devices set up as before, and all the previously installed software still installed and configured. In fact, if all has gone as planned, the only significant change will be that whatever problem your copy of XP was previously experiencing will now be gone!

Please let me know if this has been helpful to you and do not forget to rate the solution in case it was helpful to you.

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas
The keyboard error comes most likely because your holding the buttons down and the computer thinks the keyboard is broken.

To start up your computer, before the xp logo comes but after the dell logo has gone, tap f8 around every second untill advanced start up options come up, then select safe mode or vga mode.

one or the other of these will start the computer.

the issue is most likely with the video card drivers.

Ones you are in safe mode, right click on my computer and select manage. then on the management window click on device manager, then on the right side find display adapter.

Right click on the display adapter that comes up, then select uninstall and if it asks put a X on the check box on uninstall software.

ones its uninstalled you can restart the computer normally just let it start up, it should start up normally and now you need to get the correct drivers for the display adapter from the asus website.

let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Ekse

My Dell OptiPlex GX 520 has frozen. It runs Windows XP. Here in the UK, we have had a cold snap in what the papers are calling "The Coldest Day". Dunno if that's got anything to do with it. The bootup screen came on, and the bar filled nearly up to the top, but then froze there. I left it for five minutes
