Having problems with your Acer PC Laptops ?

My laptop will not boot - I get several short flashes of the HDD indicator light and then it powers itself down without even powering the LCD. Any ideas?

Answers :

When we talk about laptop won't boot up it is a hardware failure.

First of all, most of the hardware failures\015\012that are going to be presented in this article require you to\015\012disassemble the laptop and work on its internal components. Because of\015\012this, you need the required components to take the laptop apart (such\015\012as screwdrivers, etc.) and space, lots of space. If you don't have a\015\012workbench, then working on that large table in the living room should do it.

Second of all, you need to be extra careful\015\012about ESD (electrostatic discharge). Sure, this is important when\015\012working with a desktop system too, but you really shouldn't consider\015\012this as some sort of overreaction or waste of time. A few anti-static\015\012conductive bags should suffice. These are going to be useful when you\015\012take apart components from the laptop and you need a safe place to put\015\012them down.

If the laptop does not power on using the\015\012batteries, then try to power it using the AC adapter. Pay attention and\015\012see whether the LED on the laptop lights up, signaling that the adapter\015\012was detected. If yes, then your power jack works. If the notebook still\015\012does not power on, disassemble the laptop and remove the batteries.\015\012Look first for the CMOS battery and take it out.

Your best bet is that the problem is\015\012memory-related. What you need to do is re-seat the memory modules. If\015\012there are more than one, then try swapping them between each other and\015\012try different slots. Try booting again. If it does not work, then try\015\012running with only one module - this way, you can tell whether one is\015\012faulty.

Disassemble the laptop and remove the HDD,\015\012CD/DVD drives, and the modem and/or wireless card(s). If possible, take\015\012out the sound card module (if separate). To minimize the possible\015\012causes, you may disconnect the LCD panel as well. Try running this way.\015\012If it does boot, then try connecting each connector one at a time,\015\012booting up in between to localize the problem.

Good\015\012luck and take time to do a hard troubleshooting this trouble is not\015\012easy as well. You need to be care full in removing the some parts so\015\012that the other will not affected and being damaged.
