Having problems with your Acer Aspire L100 PC Desktop ?

Hello again....i've just discovered within the setup and PC health status that there seems to be a problem with the 12v supply. There are 3 different Voltage meters: 1) 12V 2) 5V 3) 3.3V Alongside these is the actual reading supplied and the 5V and 3.3V show a correct reading, however the 12V supply only shows 0.06V. If fear that this is why the fan isn't working. any ideas???.....HELP

Answers :

Having never repaired, or seen an Acer Aspire L100 desktop, I went to Acer Support, and reviews on the internet. (I do repair computers, however, not just Googling info off of the internet here)

Seems the Acer Aspire L100, uses an external power brick for a power supply. Also looks like they're harder to find than hen's teeth!

It does seem judging by your findings, that your problem is the power supply.
A computer power supply put's out three main voltages, (Such as you have seen)
A.3.3 Volts
B.5 Volts
C.12 Volts

You obviously have a weak 12 volt power rail.
At this point I would take the power brick to a repair shop. I'll bet it's bad Electrolytic Capacitors, but this is just IMHO.

Also read where there are problems with overheating issues. Most post that the front door should be kept open, when using the computer. Better make sure the inside of the computer is clean, as well.

(Computer off, and unplugged from power. Use a can or two, of compressed air for computers.
Pay special attention to the heatsink under the processor fan, and the processor fan.
Do NOT keep constant air pressure on the fan. It is only designed to spin so fast. Spinning it faster than it was designed for, can lead to premature failure of the fan's bearings! {If you hear the fan go 'Zing' get the air pressure away from it!}

BEFORE you reach inside the computer, unplug the power from it. TOUCH the metal frame of the computer case, to relieve your body of static electricity. Static will fry out those delicate computer hardware components. You may not see it, or feel it!
Zap! There goes your computer!

Try to gently move the fan blades by tipping them. Looseness in this area means the fan bearings are shot. Replace fan)
Sounds like the power supply is Bad . you can have it tested or get your own tester and test it very simple tool to use.
