Go to radio shack, and buy a *standalone* connector that is the same size as the current connector going to the back of your laptop. the good connectors will have 2 parts. the first part is what you will connect to the 2 wires after cutting off the current connecter (3 inches from the adapter to get past the short). the second part of the adapter will have 2 prongs that plug into the first piece that you splice to the power adapter cord (twisting wires). Polarity is an important factor here, so pull the battery out, then connect the power adapter. if the laptop doesn't power on with one single press of the power button, reverse the connector (pins going into opposite holes) and then try again.
