Okay, now this is not as straight forward as one might first think. There are a number of issues that can cause this symptomatic fault, and it is not made any easier by the companies that are not providing much information on the products they sell (guess they want to continue to make money on the after-purchase and extended warranties they encourage you to "take out" when you buy their product/ service). Anyway this is deviating from the situation of why we both are here (your problem and my solution to help you).

Well you can first start by throwing the manual that came with your laptop back into the box that it came from (no use here for this I doubt). Once you have done this, might be best to check your screen resolution, this is just in case you or anybody else (kids are likely culprits on this) have mucked about with anything under "display properties". So what you need to do is set the display properties to "default" and re-boot your machine. If still no joy, then go into your BIOS/ CMOS (follow the screen on first startup) and set this to default and then press F10, and exit.

If you still have no luck here, then it might be time to worry a little bit more.Now it could be possible that your display driver has gone corrupt, if this is the case, you can either download and install a new one from the manufacturers' website, or you can reach into that lovely box (the one that your user manual should be in) and pull out the disk that came with your computer, and re-install all the drivers on the disk (just best to be super safe eh??).

Right if that does not work, then I would seriously consider seeing if there is an actual fault within Windows......etc. Now to do this, I would be asking myself if the computer system in question has been on the internet, if it has, then this could be a problem, especially if you are not using an anti-virus package, worse still if you use un-recommendable software (these companies know who they are..hint hint). Now to ascertain if there is a fault within windows.......etc, You will need to uninstall and re-install your operating system (now in my case I would swan windows off and go and grab a copy of SuSe Linux, and watch the computer thank me for it).

So once you have re-installed windows it should be problem solved if this fault was software based.

Now if you still have this fault, you will have a much more serious problem, and it could be due to either a loose or broken connection inside the system, or worse still, your actual screen display is about to say "aha im whats known in the trade as....kaput, finito, bon voyage, goodbye, R.I.P". and anything else that relates to the sad ending of this particular component. If your screen is catagorically "kaput" then unfortunately you need a new one, and these can cost what is known as a "packet/ small fortune" but there are things you can do to limit the cost. Things like, buy from ebay, or go to websites that offer deceased laptops at knockdown prices as so you can "cannablise"/ harvest the good screen and keep whatever for a rainy day (like today where Im from).

It might be best to get hold of the repair documents and learn how to dismantle this machine and put it back together yourself, as this will invariably lower your repair costs.

Lastly, if the machine is under warranty, take it back to the supplier and demand an overhaul or replacement system.

I hope that all of this gobbledigook is somewhat clear to understand and I wish you all the best of luck with solving this one, and as a mark of respect, I will be phoning the manufacturers of your system and have a good old whinge as to why they dont give absolute information in their manuals of what to do about this particular fault.

BEFORE FORMATTING OR REMOVING WINDOWS, DONT FORGET TO BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT DATA, and this can be done by either saving it to another drive or computer, or by saving it onto disks, CD's, DVD's etc.

Also hope that this fault is not due to the graphics controller, or graphics array on your motherboard about to "give up the ghost". If it is, then your mainboard is KAPUT, and you may as well get another system.
