If you are saying the right button is down and is not coming back up, then either the plastic lip on the button is jambed against the palmrest, or the actual mechanical part of the mouse button underneath has collapsed and has become non-functional. If the right button clicks but does not do anything like bring up the selection window in windows then that may be a hardware issue related to XP, try this, go to the control panel > system > hardware > device manager> scroll down the Mice and pointing devices. Highlight the touchpad and click on uninstall. Make sure you are connected to the internet when you reboot and have your usb mouse hooked up so it is easy to work around this. When windows reboots it will be forced to reinstall the touchpad because it will recognize it as a new device and want to install drivers for it. If it asks to search windows update for a fresh driver, allow it and let it finish the install. See if that corrects the problem. If it is mechanical in nature, then the palmrest is going to have to be taken off and the touchpad button assembly underneath replaced.
A bit later in the game I know. However I had the same problem and i fixed it. I think you will find that the ribbon cable which joins the touch pad to the motherboard (under the keyboard) has a connection which is not connecting.
How to fix -
1a. Turn off computer, remove power supply, remove battery and discharge computer by pressing the power button.
1b. Remove keyboard and its ribbon cable (search YouTube if you are unsure). The ribbon cables can be removed by flicking up the black stopper on the motherboard connector.
2. Remove the small ribbon cable closest to the touchpad.
3. Inspect the silver contacts on the underside of the cable, you should find the contact that ends up being on the right-hand side when inserted into the connector, is slightly rolled back over itself.
4. Using something non-abrasive (something that won't cut the contact, my finger nail in my case) roll the contact towards the end of the ribbon cable where the contact should be (like the rest of the contacts).
5. Insert the ribbon cable back into the connector on the motherboard gently. If you feel as thought you have hit something when you re-insert the cable you should probably pull it back out again inspect and try to re-insert it holding it to the top of the connector as you push it in.
6. Install the keyboard, then turn on.
7. If it doesn't work, try repeating the process, if it still doesn't work... get someone to fix you computer for you.
