Having problems with your PC Laptops ?

Gateway laptop running Vista suddenly developed an issue with the mouse pad.... double click doesn't respond. However the touch pad works to move the mouse

Answers :

Hi there,
\015\012I have just had this problem with an Acer laptop running on Vista Home. When I double clicked on the actual pad itself rather than the bottons, it wasn't recognising it at all. Wouldn't scroll down or select a folder etc, just if I double clicked on the actual pad. Everything else worked OK.
\015\012I tried the solutions above but they didn't work.
\015\012Turns out it's the 'Tapping' function that needs to be enabled. Go to Start > Contol Panel > Hardware > Mouse > Device Settings > Then it says devices: and lists what pad hardware you have (mine is Synaptics Touchpad V7.2.
\015\012Under the box are 3 buttons Enable, Disable and Settings, presuming yours is enabled go to Settings > Tapping > Enable Tapping. Hey Presto! :-)
Hi there!
\015\012
\015\012Try adjusting the properties of the mouse from Control Panel.
\015\012
\015\012Click Start>Control Panel>Double-click Mouse
\015\012
\015\012There should be an option there to turn the double-click feature back on. If this doesn't work or if you've already tried this, the feature might be configured in the BIOS.
\015\012
\015\012To get to the BIOS, press F1, F10 or Delete, pending the type of model. Once you are in the BIOS, navigate to Device Configuration (actual option may differ slightly) and search for the mousepad in that list. Look for something that indicates the option to enable or disable the double-click feature. If it is disabled, press Enter while the option is highlighted and switch it from Disabled to Enabled using the arrow keys.
\015\012
\015\012Save and Exit the BIOS and let the laptop boot into Windows where you can test the mousepad's double-click feature.
\015\012
\015\012If there is not a BIOS option for that feature, try updating the driver for the mousepad. To do this:
\015\012
\015\0121. Click Start
\015\0122. Right-click My Computer
\015\0123. Select Manage
\015\0124. In the Computer Management Console window that pops up, select Device Manager
\015\0125. Expand "Mice and other pointing devices"
\015\0126. Right-click on the device and select "Update Driver..."
\015\0127. Select "Yes, this time only"
\015\0128. Click Next
\015\0129. Leave the default option selected and press Next
\015\01210. Click Finish when the option is available.
\015\012
\015\012If Windows "..can't find a better match for your hardware", navigate to Gateway's support site to find the driver for the mouse. Follow the instructions it provides to download and install it. Check the behavior of the mouse to see if the problem still exists.
\015\012
\015\012If you are told that the driver is already up-to-date and if the problem is still occuring, there may be a problem with the hardware for the mousepad, which is cause to utilize the warranty that came with the laptop, if still applicable. If the warranty is still in effect, you can open a ticket at Gateway's Support site.
\015\012
\015\012They should be able to guide you through some troubleshooting steps and/or replace the hardware for you.
\015\012
\015\012I hope this helps! Good luck!
