Cannot restore factory settings to laptop

\015 I have a Compaq laptop that I purchased for a deployment. The military configured it to work on the local LAN, and it is now protected by administrator rights that I do not have. I tried to re-configure the computer back to factory settings using the disks I created before it was configured by the military, but it didn't work, and then I tried to reconfigure from the hard drive back to factory settings, but now windows won't boot at all. I get the error message, ''Windows cannot repair this computer automatically.'' And the Root Cause Foundf or error is, ''Failure while setup is in progress.'' Is there any command I can do upon start up to wipe the entire system?\015

Used to have this problem often in different networks. Take the hard drive out of the computer you purchased it in. Install it to one that you have admin rights to. The rights you have to the hardware in that machine will cascade to the hd you are having the problems with. Failing that you can download the Linux utility Knoppix. This would allow you to access the hard drive and do what you need to do.
If you have restore cd's then yes there are lots of ways to re-initalise the hard drive so that you can restore the system to non military spec.

\015\012Be aware though that most compaq's have a small diagnostic partition.
\015\012It is usually best to re-create that. This can be done with the correct rompaq disk from compaq. You should get all the latest drivers (rompaq's) and use the one to create the special area of disk first once you have wiped it.

\015\012Just visit the compaq site and go to the support sections
