Having problems with your PC Laptops ?

CPU overheating I was wondering if anyone knew about any cpu overheating problems with the gateway MT3422. I have read several articles on this issue, and wonder if this may be my problem. I noticed that the laptop does get really hot, even with a cooling unit underneath it. The computer is now not wanting to turn on after restarting due to recent updates. I get a power light on after pushing the button a few times, no other lights are on, the CPU fans does turn on and the cd rom does spin. F 12

If you don't get anything on the monitor thats not a overheating problem, it could have been a overheating problem that has already damaged the machine.

Since your not getting any picture I would try the laptop with a external monitor, if you don't get any picture on the external monitor I'd check if your still on warranty or outside of warranty.

if your on warranty go ahead and contact your dealer or gateway for warranty service, which shouldn't cost much or not at all to you.

if your outside of warranty go ahead and try the instructions below:

unplug and take battery out. open up the memory cover in the bottom of\015\012the laptop, take both memory modules out from the laptop, now with no\015\012memory plug in the power adapter and try starting up, wait 1 minute and\015\012turn the laptop off, now place one of the memory modules back into the\015\012laptop and try starting up again, remember to unplug the power when\015\012your connecting or disconnecting parts from the laptop.

Does the\015\012laptop start up? If not, then take the ram module out from the laptop\015\012again, this time place it on the other memory slot and try again. If it\015\012still doesn't start up repeat the above with the other memory module if\015\012you have two.

if theres no improvement take the laptop apart, just disconnect all\015\012extra not required components of the laptop, modem, wireless, dvd, etc.\015\012

see if it boots up with just motherboard, cpu, cpuheatsink, other heatsinks, and one memory ram module, on power adapter.

if it doesn't start up, reseat the cpu you may also want to replace the thermal grease between the cpu and the heatsink, remember to wipe the old gease off, use DRY toilet paper or similiar, DO NOT USE WATER.

If the machine still doesn't work at all, it appears to be either the motherboard or the video adapter on the mainboard that has failed possibly due to overheating. You will most likely have to replace the whole mainboard. I would take the laptop to a local professional to confirm the fault.

or you could possibly buy a card like this
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25101

should come with a good manual of the code meanings, plug it in to the computer on the mini pci slot or the printer port and use USB for power, USB NOT NEEDED WHEN USING INTERNAL MINI PCI SLOT.

the codes that come up and the manual will point us to the direction of the problem. It does not guarantee that we can fix it. It helps in doing diagnosis at home and then replacing the part that is found faulty.

I'm pretty sure the issue is the mainboard or the video adapter. take it to a local professional to confirm the issue as I can't test your laptop over the internet.

Thanks,
Ekse
