Toshiba Satellite M35 Laptops Problem and Potential Fix

\015 I got the Toshiba M35-S359 to display information which is a big step forward. \015\012\015\012I had to place a hard eraser under the laptop case. I pressed down with my left and right arms to apply pressure. Then I pushed the power On button with my thumb, and it started to come up but got as far as displaying the following messages:\015\012_______________________________________\015\0120271: Check Date and Time Setttings0251: CMOS Checksum is inconsistent\015\012Do you want to run setup?\015\012SETUP or BOOT_______________________________________\015\012\015\012Unfortunately, the keyboard was not communicating with the BIOS and I could not go any further.\015\012\015\012I think I know what might be my problem and perhaps the source of other users' problems. I had the motherboard in my hand, when I last disassembled the laptop, I noticed a spring like switch, soldered to the motherboard, where it makes contact with the top assembly.\015\012\015\012I believe the spring switch is supposed to shut and make a circuit, which the BIOS checks and determines if its ok to proceed, because the base and top are mated and screwed together. If the contact is not made, the BIOS thinks the notebook is incomplete and will protect itself by not posting and booting.\015\012\015\012Something is preventing the switch from fully closing because the pressure on the switch, with the base and top screwed together, is not enough to close the switch circuit or its intermittent as you use the laptop, causing a reboot or no boot.\015\012\015\012How could this potentially be fixed? \015\012\015\012I am going to test this theory and place a pad under the top assembly, where it meets the spring loaded switch on the motherboard, and maybe that will ensure the switch will make a circuit and not open.\015\012Hey, its worth a try. Just have to find the time.\015\012\015\012Anyone have any experience with this switch, on the top of the motherboard?\015

Sounds like your problem might be your keyboard ribbon cable coming loose. Since you already opened it up pull the ribbon connecting the keyboard to the motherboard, off the motherboard. Make sure it is flipped in the right direction, look to see that the metal side of the ribbon is hitting metal pins once plugged in the connector. If you are sure that your computer has an "idiot" switch, which a lot of electronics do, and is not being trigged correctly when the laptop is closed - heat up a soldering iron or something and carefully and quickly melt the plastic switch in the down position. I think that should fix your problems dude, peace.
