Having problems with your PC Desktops ?

Computer keeps shutting down. It will start up and sometimes work for a while then shut down unpromted. Or if I start it, the computer will just keep shutting down and restarting for no reason. I can get it to go into the BIOS and it appears to work ok but when it boots to windows is when the problems occur.

I got a similar problem solved just this morning. Just wanted to share the solution to the community.

Well, one of the most evident symptom is that the computer shuts itself down when it executes CPU process-extensive programs like new games. These are the things that I did to prevent overheating without having to spend so much on cooling systems:

1. I DISABLED smart fan via BIOS Setup under PC HEALTH. (For the newbies, the universal default keys that I know of are F2, and DEL to get into the BIOS Setup.) This allows the fan to run at top speed (fastest RPM, over 3000). The only drawback is that fan life, presumably, will be cut short.

2. I took out the CPU fan, cleaned the heatsink and processor taking away the thermal paste from both. I even wiped the processor with a dump cloth just to make sure it's clean.

3. I inserted back the microprocessor and reapplied thermal paste right in the middle making sure that things won't get messy when I place back the heatsink. Doesn't have to be much. You can get thermal pastes that are efficient for heat absorption from a local computer store. I got mine from CDR-King and it has a label that says "For Overclocking". These pastes are efficient in absorbing heat from the processor and throwing it to the heatsink. With the CPU fan running at Top Speed, it's a sure thing that the processor would be cooled down.

4. Placed back the heatsink and locked it.

5. Problem solved.

Got a happy customer.

I just advised him to get a second system fan just to make sure that air would flow continuously in and out the system case coz he only had one.
Turn the computer on. Put your hand near the exhaust-fan of the power-supply (the top of the back of the computer). If you do *NOT* feel any air-flow, the fan inside the power-supply has failed, and your computer is over-heating, and is shutting itself down, to prevent fatal damage.
\015\012
\015\012When it does restart, put your hand on top of the computer,
\015\012above the power-supply; if it is warm to the touch, your computer is overheating.
\015\012
\015\012Take it to a qualified technician for trouble-shooting.
\015\012
\015\012It could also be the fan on top of the CPU that has failed; the CPU is overheating.
