Having problems with your PC Desktops ?

There are Trojans on my HP, I have Vista Hm Prm.

\015 I can no longer log on to the internet to download anything to dislodge it. Can I safely go into the registry file to get rid of them? (I have all of the names, numbers, etc. connected with each. One came in with an Adobe Reader download.) Where would I find that info? Or, am I going to need to wipe my drive clean and start over? I have medium computer skills, but can follow directions fairly well.\015

Hello there Rebecca.

I am so sorry to hear about your Trojan / Virus woes. It is virtually impossible to get rid of a trojan, even if you know exactly what file it came in with (or files) because once you have it the trojan infects thousands of other files on your computer. You probably noticed the computer getting slower and slower, and having worse and worse symptoms.

What you will want to do is back up anything you need to save (documents, pictures, music, things like this). The easiest way to back them up is to copy them to a USB thumb drive, you can get them very cheap from a place like Best Buy or even Sams Club / Costco. Just drag and drop all of your important files onto the new USB drive. If you don't have any files you care about keeping that is even easier. Just go ahead to the next step after this.

The next step would be to wipe the drive clean and start over, to do that you will need to boot off of your Windows CD and follow the steps (either that or the RESTORE cd that came with your computer). As soon as you get your Windows back on the computer make sure you download a good antivirus software. The best free one is AVG Free. Just do a google search for it when you get your computer back running. Do not attempt to plug in the USB drive with your old files before getting antivirus up and running just incase one of those files got infected.

From there you should be good to go, trust me you don't want to attempt to remove the trojan manually, it is virtually impossible to do it that way. Even an experienced IT professional can not do it in most cases.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
