A D-Link to SMC Wireless Internet Sharing...

\015 I got a D-LINK RANGEBOOSTER G? USB ADAPTER WUA-2340 and I'm trying to get it to connect to my SMC8014W-G Broadband Wireless Gateway. My D-LINK is on my Win 2k computer and the SMC is on Windows Vista. After following the D-Link instructions. Scanning revealed 2-3 wireless networks... 1 called 'MyPlace' 1-2 called 'Default'.'MyPlace' requires a passkey. I'm unaware of my SMC having one so I believe it's someone else's network. All Networks get below 35% connectivity. So I assume these are far away... My D-Link/SMC is 2 rooms apart (25meters est.) at most?Any tips for what I do to get this to work? Steps I missed? (Internet/file sharing)\015

Hi dear

try this

  1. Before you attempt\015\012to use any Wi-Fi network, find out what the SSID, Channel, Mode and WEP\015\012key are. Some Wi-Fi locations do not require a WEP key. Many Wi-Fi\015\012providers have this information on their web site or when you purchase\015\012access you will be provided the information.
  2. \015\012
  3. Ensure you have a firewall program installed and running. This will protect your data.
  4. \015\012
  5. Start up your laptop and once booted, look for the Wi-Fi network icon in the bottom right of the screen.
  6. \015\012
  7. Click on the Wifi Connection icon on bottom right of screen and you\015\012should see a window that indicates connection, strength and duration.\015\012Click on the Properties tab.

  8. wirelessnetworkscreenbl.jpg

    \015\012
  9. The next window will show the type of networking card installed. Click on the Wireless Networks tab.

  10. 02ee437.jpg

    \015\012
  11. Once the Wireless Network Connection Properties window is open you\015\012will have two options depending on how you set up your laptop.
  12. \015\012
      \015\012
    • If you\015\012do not see any networks listed in Preferred or Available networks, you\015\012will have to manually add the SSID. Click on Add.\015\012You will have to enter the SSID and WEP key (if required). Click OK and\015\012you should then see the network you just added in the Available\015\012networks box.

    • 4d25eb5.jpg

      \015\012
    • If you see the correct SSID showing in the Available Networks, then\015\012you need to click on Configure in order to enter the WEP key if that is\015\012required.

    92752af.jpg

    \015\012
  13. In the next window, enter the SSID for the Wi-Fi network you want\015\012to access. Make sure you do not have CAPS lock or NUM lock while\015\012entering the information. If a network key is required, click on "Data\015\012Encryption and then enter the Network key you have been provided with.\015\012Again make sure you do not have CAPS or NUM lock on. Click OK when\015\012entered. If you have entered the key incorrectly a message will pop up\015\012and you will need to re-enter the key.

  14. fccfda9.jpg

    \015\012
  15. Next go to Start - and where it says Connect To click on that and\015\012you should see choices like in the graphic below. Click on Wireless\015\012Network Connection and it should work.

\015\01234b0a7b.jpg

\015\012\015\012There are\015\012occasions when the connection doesn't work, in these cases check your\015\012firewall software and make sure it allows you to connect to the Wi-Fi\015\012network. To check this, disable your firewall software and check the\015\012connection again. If you can connect with the firewall program\015\012disabled, you change your settings. If your firewall program is not the\015\012problem check the SSID and WEP key information that you entered. Both\015\012of these are case sensitive. If you had obtained SSID information from\015\012the Internet, check with someone in the establishment to see if the\015\012SSID has been changed.

oke post in me back

i hope this usefull for you

thanks
