Having problems with your PC Desktops ?

My dell 5150 dimension will not work. It has a n ornage flashing light on the power button. I have read the dell forums, and one successful approach was to unplug the computer and the crack case , find the jumper for resetting the bios, remobve the jumper from pins 2&3 and put them on pins 1&2 for a while but I don't k,now howe to do this!! I assume the crack case is the out cover for the main drive but I don't know where to look for the bios. Please help thsnks Carolyn

Answers :

Hi Carolyn,
crack the case is open the tower by removing the large side panel so that you can look into your computer and see the motherboard.
It is not too hard to find...it is usually located near what is know as a COIN battery...because it look like a shinny silver coin about the size of a quarter. Now a jumper is nothing than three small pins (about 1/4" long) is a straight row. The actual jumper is a plastic cap (usually blue of black) that covers two of the three pin. If you can locate them the position they are in is 2&3 so you can figure that the one that is not covered is one.... take that cap (jumper) off of 2&3 and put it on for 1 minute...restore side panel and power and see if it worked.
Hope this help, if not write back , good luck,
please leave rating.
My 5150 had a green flashing power button (no diagnostic lights) and would not boot after upgrading my RAM modules. The bios jumper reset worked for me (Thank you!) but I had to do it with the power on for it to work. Don't want anyone shocked but wanted to let you know this variation on the solution.
