Dell XPS Gen 3 Power Surge - Motherboard dead or power supply?

\015 There was a lighting strike that occurred and my desktop immediately turned off even though the other components connected to same power surge protector were still active and working. Anyway, my PC will not turn on. No LED lights or fans. The only thing that lights up is a green motherboard light (is the flea power?). So my question is, since there is a light that comes on, should I assume that the power supply is ok and its the motherboard?\015

\015\012Most computer power supplys have 3 different voltages coming out of them The motherboard light indicates only that the particular part of the motherboard that uses a particular voltage. The power supply may only be providiing power to that specific part of the computer. I would recommend trying another power supply to determine if that is the resolution.

No, do not assume that. It is impossible to tell without testing what component the lightning damaged. If you have another power supply available the easiest way to check is connect the good power supply to your motherboard (you do not have to remove your existing power supply from the case, just unplug it from your current components and connect the new one.

If the power supply is not the problem, this computer will have to be taken apart and each component tested. More than one component could be damaged.

Have a Dell XPS 200. Computer was on overnight when our power went out and then came back on. It was plugged into a power strip with surge protector. Now it will not turn on, no power, no lights, no fan comes on. It's just dead. Unplugged it, plugged directly into wall, turned the switch on the back of & on. NOTHING. What could cause this? Power supply, mobo? Could the bios battery cause this? Thanks!

Motherboard failure Hi I have been told that my motherboard in my Compaq Presario , which is 2 .5 yrs old and has not been used for 1 year , has failed. The monitor is OK on my other PC. I have been quoted 400 AUD / 600 USD for a new motherboard. Is this a reasonable cost? Thanks
